Yesterday Karl and I braved the thunderstorms to listen to Twins Hall-of-Famer Bert Blyleven speak at the Cambridge High School. I knew I had to take Karl when he was willing to risk the severe weather to go; Karl is a serious weather watcher, but he told me that "this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity." Ok then, let's go! Laura, of course, didn't want to listen to "some baseball announcer," and Matt was stuck in traffic on his way home from St. Paul, so it was just the two of us. It's a good thing that the only year I was a faithful Twins fan was their 1987 World Series season, so at least I remember when Bert Blyleven was a player! We met our friends there, so Karl had a group of three baseball-loving boys to hang out with (Their names are Sanden, Ty, and Nolan. Guess who they're named after…). It was a good thing the weather was so iffy, because I think it kept a lot of people away. We had a nice close seat, and afterwards Karl got to meet Bert and get his baseball signed!
Bert was very friendly and insisted on getting a picture with the boys. The Rush City Tigers are going to have quite a baseball team when these kids are in high school!
