Happy 9th Birthday Karl!

Last Saturday was Karl’s 9th birthday, and we celebrated in the usual way. First thing in the morning, presents. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8210/8221902865_03a0968e8b_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8344/8222977300_9a26753193_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8061/8222977502_3147e164b6_z.jpg Next, the birthday boy’s breakfast of choice—donuts. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8068/8222978698_f11e1c58ab_z.jpg Then it was off to the AmericInn in North Branch for a pool party with a few friends. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8062/8222979074_e529dcebc6_z.jpg Karl had his party here two years ago as well, and we served pizza that day too. We discovered that five 9-year-old boys eat a lot more pizza than eight 7-year-old boys! http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8340/8221905407_d74253d072_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8343/8221905755_2ee6a3005e_z.jpg http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8209/8222980154_73a1d87c13_z.jpg Karl made a big production about how he had never left a candle lit in his whole life. Well, here he is—it took him three tries to blow out a single, measly candle! There must be a girlfriend in the picture… http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8479/8221906253_cd939800ed_z.jpg Laura was a good sport about hanging around during the party. She got to swim with Karl after all the boys went home. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8342/8221905231_3fb7c9a763_z.jpg For dinner, we met Oma, Opa, Grandma, and Grandpa at Applebee’s in Forest Lake. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8482/8221906427_d78591a2da_z.jpg Karl was exhausted when we arrived at the restaurant. He was kind of a crabby birthday boy for the first few minutes, but as soon as he had a few mozzarella sticks he perked right up and was as silly as ever. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8057/8221906711_3714fd06a6_z.jpg Karl chose Applebee’s because he thought it would be pretty fun to have the waitresses come to the table and sing him a song. http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8344/8221906861_bb3ef4e018_z.jpg He had a perma-grin the entire time they were singing, but he did lean over to me afterward and say “That was kind of embarrassing.” http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8341/8222981128_786f0e867d_z.jpg Did I mention that he was back to his silly self by the end of the meal? http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8204/8221907331_6c561e088b_z.jpg Happy 9th birthday Karl!
