Oma's Birthday Cake

Yesterday was Pam's birthday, and she and Fred came over for dinner. I looked in our cupboards for a cake mix, but both were chocolate. Laura quickly exclaimed, "Too bad, Mommy. This is a Meissner birthday dinner so you don't get chocolate this time!" Laura and Karl jumped at the chance to make a yellow cake with white frosting for her, and with a little supervision from Matt, they did it.http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7200/6933150025_849d95a7c5_z.jpg

They even decorated it. I wrote "Happy Birthday," and the kids used all 19 types we had of decorations to make it extra fancy. I suppose I needed to clean out the decorating corner of my cupboard… I'd say the result was quite lovely, though.http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7209/6787033994_1a0418f152_z.jpg

When we showed Pam the cake, the kids pointed out the variety of embellishments, including cows, moons, flowers, dinosaurs, colored sugar, Christmas sprinkles, rainbow sprinkles, stars, dolphins, and hearts.http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7189/6787034398_a065672f3e_z.jpg

We sang "Happy Birthday" slowly and somberly, as is our custom for anyone over 30. Just kidding. The kids were actually just tired from cake-baking, and I was sad that it wasn't chocolate. http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7065/6787034756_6cac7944af_z.jpg

Laura and Karl are now taking cake orders. They only do white or yellow cake, though.
